The National Food Institute (DTU Food, Denmark) invites applications for a position as a research scientist in the Research Group on Analytical Food Chemistry. Focus areas of the group are on providing trust and transparency by detecting the occurrence and formation of chemicals in food. The goal is to document chemical food safety, quality and reveal fraud, to develop solutions for future food control, and to discover and mitigate risks in food production.

 

The research field for the position concerns the pesticide residue analyses and food safety, with focus on enhancing food control and risk assessment and the analytical background for this.

 

The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position.

 

Responsibilities and tasks

The successful candidate will be expected to develop the research in analytical food chemistry by attracting external funded projects on chemical residues in food and feed. The candidate will be involved in teaching, innovation and advisory activities in relation to food chemistry. Teaching activities will include supervision of student projects. The scientific advisory activities are related to the European Union Reference Laboratory and the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration

 

The candidate’s research will be the basis for the candidate’s involvement in the daily operation of the EU Reference Laboratory for pesticide residues in Cereals and Feedingstuff and contribute to organizing proficiency testing schemes, training activities, workshops, providing technical and scientific support to the EU Commission and other stakeholders within the area.

 

The candidate will be involved in the daily operation of the laboratory facilities for trace analysis of pesticides and other food contaminants and will contribute to maintaining its accreditation.

 

Qualifications
Candidates must

  • hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in analytical food chemistry
  • have a research background in analytical food chemistry and analysis of contaminants in biological matrices common in feed and food using LC-MSMS/GC-MSMS and LC-HRMS
  • must have a strong track record of research collaboration with authorities or industrial partners
  • be well experienced in offering scientific advice to the private and public sector.
  • have a general knowledge of food safety and risk assessment.
  • be fluent in English, both written and orally

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
