In connection with our research project ‘MIMIO – Microstructures, microbiota and oral delivery’ granted by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, we are looking to fill a researcher position. The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position.

In MIMIO, we intend to design, characterize and apply micrometer-sized containers for the oral administration of probiotics with the vision of using them, for example, in the treatment of colitis. The project is based on a close collaboration between DTU Health Tech and DTU Food, and activities cover areas such as design, microfabrication and in vivo experiments.

Responsibilities and tasks
You will be responsible for expanding our activities within drug delivery using microfabricated substrates exploring biomaterials and new fabrication techniques to encapsulate bioactive agents in extracellular matrix-like structures for appropriate adhesion to the GI tract and target delivery of the drug. You have scientific expertise in the fields of material science (polymeric biomaterials, fabrication techniques), biomechanics (mucoadhesion studies) and cell culturing. You are expected to initiate new collaborations and broaden the existing ones. It is expected that you will apply for own research funding, co-develop our teaching portfolio, contribute to our outreach activities, supervise and engage PhD students. It is important that you have good written and oral communication.

Qualifications
The candidate must 

  • Hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in material engineering, biomedical engineering or pharmaceutical fields.
  • Have a strong national and international network
  • Have a demonstrated ability to attract funding
  • Be able to work within a team- and collaboration-oriented research environment
  • Be motivated by both individual and team accomplishments  
We seek a person who is in line with our IDUN values (www.idun.dtu.dk) and who is highly self-motivated and with a great flair for guiding students. Preferably, you have a PhD degree in Material science, Biomedical engineering, or Pharmaceutical field, and a proven track record in supervision of students. You can see the greater picture of the section/department and align with the goals of the section. You enjoy the interaction with team members, collaborators and students. You are a good communicator, and create a positive working environment.

Specifically we are looking for a candidate that:
 
  • Has intensive track record within design and development of biocompatible and biodegradable polymeric micro/nanostructures for encapsulation of bioactive agents
  • Has extensive experience in biomechanics with special attention to muco-adhesion properties
  • Has the expertise in the field of tissue engineering for design and development of advanced intestinal in vitro models for bio-mimetic drug absorption studies

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment. More information can be found here:
