DTU Wind Energy invites applications with a talent and passion for structural testing and innovation for a position as Test Engineer at DTU Large Scale Facility – a university lab testing wind turbine structures. DTU Wind Energy is the world leading university department in wind energy. DTU Large Scale Facility is a new state-of-the-art structural test facility capable of testing wind turbine blades up to 45 m. Besides doing advanced structural testing and measurements, we are working towards making the facility an international recognized development and demonstration lab for Digital Twins and related digitalization technologies. Applicants with less experience but high potential to excel in this field can also apply.

The job
We require a Test Engineer who can deal with highly complex test projects in collaboration with researchers and project managers. You will join a cross-disciplinary, international team working on developing design tools and testing methods for wind turbine structures and components. The particular areas of responsibilities include:

  • Testing of composite structures such as wind turbine blades, carried out on several scale levels (full size, sub-scale components etc.) and from different point of views: strength, fatigue life, modal analysis.
  • Experimental validation of numerical calculations carried out in structural test facilities at DTU.
  • Reporting and documentation of test results following proper data management systems.
  • In the daily work you will report to the lab manager and work with team with engineers and technicians.

Our expectations of you
You have an education as engineer or similar. You have a board technical background and good understanding of structural testing. Good communication skills, patience and a positive attitude to working in a team are essential requirements for the successful applicant

Furthermore, you have some of the following background and qualifications:

  • Strong skills in structural testing and preferable with wind turbine blades,
  • Experience with design, manufacturing and setting up of customized test rigs
  • Work experience with test controllers and data acquisition systems is an advantage,
  • Work experience with sensor and measurement technology is an advantage,
  • Specialization in mechanics of composite materials and structures is an advantage,
  • Work experience with programming and software development is an advantage,
  • Ability to work independently towards research and project goals,
  • Ability to collaborate with researchers and technicians,
  • Fluency in communicating, reading and writing English.

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

  • practical sense of structural response and what a good design is
  • an all-round experience basis
  • the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position is a full-time position and the workplace is DTU Risø Campus. The daily working language is English.
