At DTU Energy we do research and development on energy conversion devices relevant to the green transition. Our research addresses technologies like fuel cells, batteries, solar cells and electrolysis.

With growing activity in the field of solid oxide cells, we are looking for a laboratory manager to further develop our laboratory and ensure high quality measurements.

Electrolysis is a key part of Power-to-X, to produce green fuels and facilitate the transition to a sustainable energy future. Several types of electrolysis systems exist based on different electrolytes and operating at different temperatures. At DTU Energy, we do R&D on several different types of electrolysis with most emphasis on alkaline and solid oxide electrolysis. The solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) technology offers the highest efficiency among the different technologies whereas alkaline electrolysis has advantages in terms of very long lifetimes. These electrolysis technologies as well as even less mature types require further development and we have at DTU Energy therefore established a world class electro-chemistry test laboratory for this purpose.

We have a growing number of projects in particular in the area of SOEC and SOFC and are continuously developing our laboratories accordingly. We are now searching for a laboratory manager/development engineer to help us with this process, i.e. overseeing the activities in the laboratory, developing new equipment, ensuring the stable operation of the tests in the laboratory, running the complex experiments and spare with the technicians working on the topics.

You will be a part of the infrastructure support team counting 15 colleagues. 

You will be working with technicians to solve the technical challenges in the laboratory and with researchers in the development of new experiments and conduction of complex electro-chemical tests. As a part of the support team you will also assist in developing new equipment for other R&D tasks at the department. Most of our everyday communication is in English as we have an international staff.

Qualifications
Candidates should hold a M.Sc. degree in electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering or equivalent. Furthermore, the candidate should have experience in one or more of these areas:

  • Construction and control of experimental test equipment or advanced machinery
  • Data logging and data management
  • Design and construction of electronic circuits for measurement purposes and signal processing

Additional experience in one or more of the following areas is further considered advantageos:

  • Electrochemistry
  • Gas handling/Atex
  • High temperature or high pressure process Work in an international environment
  • Project management
  • hands-on experience (preferably from research lab) with electrical measurements for electrochemical characterization e.g. frequency analyzers for impedance spectroscopy, power supplies used for recording of polarization curves etc.

You should further have:

  • Good writing and communication skills in English
  • Experience and ability to work independently and to plan and carry out complicated tasks
  • Ability to be a part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary international work environment and to work close together with Researchers, students as well as Research and Lab technicians

And preferably:

  • experience with documentation, Risk-assessments and other administrative tasks related to Laboratory management and equipment responsibility

Salary and appointment terms
The employment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
