PhD Position in Nanomedicine for Boosting Immunotherapy

Center for Nano-Immune Cell-Engineering (NICE) at DTU Health Tech invites applications for a PhD position in nanomedicine, focusing on in vivo tumor microenvironment modulation to enhance immunotherapy.

NICE is a newly established center funded by Novo Nordisk Fonden’s Challenge Programme 2021. The overall aim of NICE is to change the way we treat cancer today by solving the challenges associated with CAR T-cell therapy. The successful candidate will join our interdisciplinary team comprising of excellent material scientists, immunologists and molecular biologists.

Responsibilities and tasks
The candidate will be responsible for developing novel nanoparticles to deliver drugs to tumor microenvironment. The main tasks include:

  • Design, formulate and characterize the drug delivery systems;
  • Coordinate with other team members to evaluate the tumor microenvironment modulation both in vitro and in vivo;
  • Disseminate and communicate the results through journal and conference publications;  
  • Assist in lab management and student supervision.


  • The candidate must hold a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points)  ideally in nanotechnology, polymer science, pharmaceutical, or related disciplines.
  • The candidate should have solid skills in nanomaterial synthesis and characterization, and strong background in formulation and biological evaluation of drug delivery systems.  
  • Experiences with delivery systems for immunotherapy will be considered as an advantage.
  • The candidate should demonstrate evidence of self-driven and independent research capability, good problem-solving skills, excellent writing and communication skills, an interest in working in an interdisciplinary environment, and a strong motivation to succeed within the competitive research field.

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years, starting as soon as possible.

The position will be based at the DTU Lyngby Campus, Denmark.
