A Postdoc position is available at DTU Wind Energy, the Section for Composite Mechanics and Structures. The Section consists of 15 people and aim at developing the knowledge basis for the future materials design for the wind industry, with specific focus on the wind turbine blade materials.

The position is in the framework of Innovation Foundation project “DURALEDGE/ Durable leading edges for high tip speed wind turbine blades".

Responsibilities and tasks

The postdoctoral position will focus on: 

  • development of computational models to evaluate various protective coatings of the wind turbine blades, with view of their lifetime and rain erosion resistance.
  • numerical modelling of microscale degradation and fatigue of wind turbine blade coatings under multiple liquid impacts, using finite element software Abaqus and Python programming language.  
During the project time, you will collaborate with experimental groups at DTU Wind Energy, and with external project partners, including leading manufacturers of wind turbine blades and coatings.

You are expected to have a PhD. degree in materials science, applied mechanics, mechanical engineering or related disciplines, and have an experience or good knowledge of mechanics of materials, computational micromechanics, finite element simulations (ABAQUS), Matlab as well as programming in a higher-level language (Python, including Numpy package). Knowledge and experience in the mechanics of viscous materials and polymers will be advantageous.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 15 months. The start of work is November 1, 2019, or shortly afterward.
