We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoc candidate to work on novel application scenarios for a new generation of magnetometers that are based on Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) Centers in Diamond. NV-based magnetometers offer exciting possibilities as they combine excellent sensitivity with high spatial resolution and work at ambient temperatures. The PostDoc will contribute to the interdisciplinary BioQ project, which aims to establish novel ways to leverage the these possibilities in order to measure the function and structure of central and peripheral nerve cells.

Responsibilities and tasks
Your main role in the project will be on the exploration of novel application scenarios for functional imaging using accurate simulations of the magnetic fields created by neural activity in-vivo and in-vitro. In addition, you will explore the possibility to use the magnetic properties of specific nerve structures for magnetometry-based structural imaging. This information will directly feed into the development of new magnetometry setups and help the interpretation of the experimentally acquired data.

BioQ is a collaborative project involving DTU Physics (Prof. Ulrik Lund Andersen and Assoc. Prof. Alexander Huck), DTU Health (Assoc. Prof. Axel Thielscher), Copenhagen University (Assoc. Prof. Jean-Francois Marie Perrier) and the Danish Research Center for Magnetic Resonance (Prof. Hartwig R. Siebner).

You will join the 
Neurophysics group headed by Axel Thielscher that develops advanced biophysical methods for transcranial brain stimulation and recording of neural activity. You will work in a highly multidisciplinary project team that comprises activities at the Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen University and the Danish Research Center for Magnetic Resonance.

Candidates should have a PhD degree in physics, computer science, biomedical engineering or equivalent academic qualifications. Prior experience in biophysical modelling, volume conductor models, biomedical signal analysis or neural modelling are desirable. Good programming skills in Matlab and/or Python and experience in NEURON are considered a plus.

While the candidate’s focus will be on exploring and optimizing new application scenarios via realistic simulations, he or she should have a general interest to contribute to the interdisciplinary project. The successful candidate should be highly motivated and have the ability to efficiently structure his or her own work while at the same time being willing to contribute to the BioQ project team.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years.

The employment will be at DTU Health Tech, but the candidate will be involved in the relevant project parts of the collaborators. This setting will ensure that the candidate can benefit from the synergy in this interdisciplinary project. Working language is English. Proficiency in Danish is not required.
