Process and Innovation

Process and Innovation is a study programme for anyone who is keen to develop new products, pursue new ways of doing things, and cultivate new business areas. Companies need innovative employees if they are to remain competitive. To keep up with demands from customers and the general public, it is essential to constantly think in new ways. As an innovation engineer, you can help translate new ideas into concrete and usable solutions.

What will you learn?

On the Process and Innovation study programme you will learn to work professionally with innovation and the implementation of new concepts, products, and processes from an engineering perspective. You will receive the science and technology insight that enables you to develop and implement changes, and learn to work consciously with creativity, concept development, and user and customer needs in the innovation process.

You will also acquire knowledge of business strategies, enabling you to translate your innovative ideas into real business potential. You learn to work with 3D modelling, rapid prototyping, design thinking, and embedded systems, and about fields such as data analysis and materials science.

Study programme structure

The first four semesters primarily consist of mandatory subjects in areas such as entrepreneurship, product development, project management, and mathematics. The study programme is practice-oriented, based on relevant issues.

Each semester therefore includes a project where you get to apply your theoretical knowledge in practice—often with inspiration from or in collaboration with companies. You spend semester 5 doing an internship in a company, and in semesters 6 and 7 you tune your profile through electives. The study programme ends with your BEng project, which you do in collaboration with a company.

Career opportunities

As a BEng in Process and Innovation graduate you can work as a design engineer, UX (user experience) designer, process consultant, or project manager, or as an employee in a development department or the head of innovation processes in a technology company. You will also be equipped to become an entrepreneur and establish your own business.
