Earth and Space Physics and Engineering

Technologies for monitoring and mapping the Earth and exploring space play a major role in our everyday lives. Without them, there would be no satellite navigation, reliable weather forecasts, global climate and environmental monitoring systems, or global telecommunications. Looking to the future, these systems will undergo further development—just as new challenges will present themselves. As an engineer in the field of earth and space physics, you can help develop solutions that can benefit our environment and make our lives easier.

 

What will you learn?

The focus in the Earth and Space Physics and Engineering study programme is on developing, designing and applying technological solutions for monitoring, mapping, modelling, and predicting physical structures on a large scale—i.e. the Earth and space.
The world needs innovative solutions in order to learn more about the solar system and universe—about exoplanets, the universe’s large scale structure, compact objects, etc. We need new monitoring methods and systems so that we can map changes in the environment and climate, and assess the impact of the measures taken. With more accurate data from navigation satellites, images from Earth observation satellites and improved communication facilities, the number of new navigation and mapping systems/applications is set to explode in the next few years. Engineers in earth and space physics will be able to help design these new technological solutions.

 

Study programme structure

On the programme you will learn how to combine your scientific knowledge with interdisciplinary technological skills with a view to developing technological solutions—in fields such as instrumentation, modelling and data processing methods for use in climate and environmental monitoring, searching for new resources, space exploration, or mapping and navigation on Earth. You will have ample opportunity to focus on what interests you most through the electives. To help guide your choices, some recommended courses of study have been set out.

 

Career opportunities

In combination with an MSc, you will be qualified for positions in Danish or international high-tech companies, large space companies, European industrial giants, and international organizations. You can also get jobs in the geo and consultancy sector, surveying and mapping companies, consulting engineering companies, or government agencies.
