Focus areas - Chemical and Biochemical Engineering

The MSc Eng in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering has three focus areas and one optional study line.

Studies may be organized within three broad areas, the focus areas. The focus areas for Chemical and Biochemical Engineering are:

The focus areas should be considered guidelines for study plans; any individual study plan may cut across the different focus areas as long as the general requirements—with respect to general competences and technological specialization—are satisfied (see 'curriculum').

For all three areas electives may be chosen freely among all DTU's courses of MSc type. In general, relevant MSc type courses from the departments of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Management should be considered as supplements to additional technological specialization courses. Also PhD courses from the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering could be of interest for qualified students. Please note that MSc students need prior consent of the teacher in order to enrol in a PhD course.

Two of the focus areas are by nature very cross-disciplinary. For those some examples of electives are shown below.

Research project area or subject should be considered from the beginning of the MSc studies. Contact with prospective advisors should be made as early as possible in order to narrow the field of interest and in order to get the best basis for adjustments of the study plan. If possible, choice of electives should be discussed with the research project adviser. The programme coordinator is also available for help in setting up study plans.
