Polymer Engineering - Study line
Polymers are materials composed of large numbers of smaller molecules, monomers, to form large molecular structures. The annual world production of polymers is currently 80 million tonnes and rapidly growing. New polymers are synthesized to create functionalities (chemical, optical and electrical) not obtainable in traditional materials, and improved polymer- processing operations are then developed that convert these polymers to products with completely new properties.
This MSc Eng programme covers all aspects of polymer engineering and science including:
Polymer chemistry: synthesis of polymers with controlled structure such as chain backbone, branching, cross links and functional units for special optical, electrical, surface and barrier properties.
Polymer technology and physics: connection between given chemical composition and the macroscopic properties. Compounding and preparation of polymer blends and composites. Polymer rheology and connection to structures. Multiphase polymeric systems and polymers with nano-scale structures.
Polymer processing: numerical modelling of injection moulding, extrusion, thermoforming and film blowing.
