Support for students who are blind or visually impaired
There are major differences between being blind and visually impaired. Therefore, the problems facing the two groups of students may call for different solutions.
In addition to the obvious problems of being blind or visually impaired, you might also be experiencing problems in connection with:
- staying focused in relation to your studies
- endurance
- maintaining an overview of your studies
- structuring and planning your studies.
If you are blind or visually impaired, you may, for instance, be granted the following support:
- Study materials; you may be granted funding for buying specially designed study materials.
- IT starter package, consisting of a computer with special software and possibly extra hardware adapted to visually impaired or blind students. The starter package also comes with instructions on how to use the package, offered by the Institute for the Blind and Partially Sighted (IBOS). The instructions also include an assessment of whether you need additional aids. Additional aids can be applied subsequently.
- Blackboard camera, CCTV (large computer screen) etc., for visually impaired students.
- Secretarial assistance if you need help with taking notes, big assignments, exam registration, copying, searching for information at libraries etc.
NB! IT tools can be borrowed but must be returned if you either leave or complete your study programme.
