DTU improves to number 109 in the QS World University Rankings 2025, which lists the top 1,500 universities worldwide. DTU has been on the list and generally increased its ranking over the past 20 years, and from 2024 to 2025, DTU has moved up 12 places.
The QS World University Rankings are considered one of the most widely read university rankings in the world. The rankings aim to reflect the position of universities and reflect expectations of university performance for the next academic year. Therefore, the lists are named with the year of the year following the year in which they are produced. The QS World University Rankings are produced by Quacquarelli Symonds, a higher education research firm.
DTU's progress is reflected in three factors in particular that QS emphasizes. DTU is generally recognized for its international commitment, as the university admits many international students and employs a high number of researchers from other countries. In addition, DTU is also among the top 200 in the rankings when it comes to international research networks, where DTU often publishes in collaboration with universities in other countries.
"At DTU, we are proud to be recognized for being international. We have students from 114 countries and almost half of our master's students and 60 pct. of our PhD students have a passport other than Danish. It's important that we orient ourselves towards the world, and many of our partners are global, just as we meet foreign labor in virtually all industries. Because talent knows no borders, and neither do the challenges we have to solve - whether it's the climate crisis, the energy crisis or the green transition,” says DTU President Anders Bjarklev.
In the QS World University Rankings, DTU maintains its position as number two in Denmark and moves up seven places to number 41 in Europe. This move is in line with the fact that in the new EngiRank list in 2023, DTU was ranked among 225 technical universities as the best technical university in the EU.
