Like the rest of the world, DTU’s finances are affected by inflation, rising energy prices, and increased IT security costs.
This has meant that the University implemented a number of measures to improve its finances at the end of 2022. These measures included a hiring freeze, a reduction in maintenance tasks, and a postponement of a number of planned new building projects.
DTU’s employees were offered to apply for voluntary redundancy, resulting in agreements being entered into with 64 employees. In addition, all units at DTU have had to cut their expenses, including further staff reductions.
“Today, we’ve had to say goodbye to 75 employees due to the University’s financial situation. It’s a highly regrettable situation, but, unfortunately, the current measures and cost reductions are necessary to balance our budget and to ensure that DTU remains a viable university in 5, 10, and 50 years. As a technical university, we possess essential knowledge and competencies to implement the transitions that our society is facing, including in sustainability, energy, and biotechnology,” says Claus Nielsen, University Director.
Today, the University’s employees have been informed that 75 of their colleagues have been given notice of dismissal due to DTU’s current financial situation.
