International Energy Conference at DTU from 10–12 September 2013

Energy drives green economic growth and job creation

The international energy sector faces stiff challenges given the demands that future energy supplies must be sustainable. The world population is forecast to grow to nine billion by 2050, with six billion people living in cities. Growing urbanization demands more energy, not least in large developing countries. At the same time, we are in the middle of a financial crisis that can thwart developments unless a number of targeted initiatives are launched. Energy researchers, politicians and the energy industry will address these issues at a DTU conference.

Both Denmark and the EU have ambitious goals with respect to energy. Partly because it is absolutely essential to mitigate the impact of climate change, but also because sustainable energy on a large scale can pave the way for green economic growth and job creation. Sustainable energy also improves security of supply by reducing fossil fuel dependence.

DTU is holding a three-day conference on how best to bring together energy research and the energy sector and political decision-makers to speed up sustainable growth and meet the ambitious Danish and European energy policy objectives.

The programme includes keynote speakers from internationally leading energy institutions and agencies, the EU, universities, and the business community. The talks will be interspersed with plenary and parallel sessions at which researchers and energy experts take an in-depth look at the status of and perspectives for sustainable energy technologies and their role in tomorrow’s energy system. At the sessions, the latest research developments within, for example, solar energy, wind power, bioenergy, heat pumps, energy storage, energy efficiency, intelligent energy systems, and smart cities will be presented and discussed.

The conference will close with a round table discussion between:

  • Martin Lidegaard, Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Building
  • Claus Hviid Christensen, Director, Head of Group R&D at DONG Energy
  • Hans Peter Slente, Director, Danish Energy Industries Federation
  • Anders Stouge, Deputy Director General, Danish Energy Association
  • Professor Michael Weinhold, Siemens
  • Ulrik Dan Weuder, Head of Infrastructure and SRI, ATP

The full programme can be seen at http://www.natlab.dtu.dk/english/Energy_Conferences.

The conference is sponsored by Danfoss, DONG Energy, Danish Energy Association, Danish Energy Industries Federation and State of Green.
