On Monday, 25 September, HRH Crown Prince Frederik inaugurated Industriens Fonds Hus, which now houses the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research (SDC).

Situated north of Beijing, the centre is the single largest Danish education and research initiative outside Denmark, and the building provides an attractive research and study environment for both Danish and Chinese researchers and students.

The inauguration ceremony is part of the crown prince’s four-day visit with focus on Sino-Danish collaboration on education, research, and innovation as well as Danish environmental solutions, tourism, and culture. Philip Binning, Senior Vice President, Dean of Graduate Studies and International Affairs, Professor Martin Bendsøe, and a number of researchers and lecturers from DTU attended the inauguration.

A milestone
“The inauguration of the building is a milestone in the development of SDC. The new building will provide Danish students with the optimum setting for building up knowledge and competences in China, and it will also help Danish businesses to gain a foothold in a country—c characterized by rapid technological development and growth,” says Philip Binning.

SDC is a joint research and education project involving eight Danish universities, the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science, the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

SDC was established in 2010 and launched its first master's programmes in 2012. Today, more than 800 master's students and more than 200 PhD fellows are affiliated with the centre. With lecturers teaching on six out of seven programmes, DTU is one of the main stakeholders in the partnership.
