New international hall of residence at Lyngby Campus

A new hall of residence has shot up in record time in DTU’s northwestern corner, and 144 international students have taken occupancy.

The first sod of earth was turned in August last year and now 312 new apartments are ready for occupation. The client is the International Housing Foundation (Boligfonden) DTU, who inaugurated the new hall of residence on 10 May—at which time they also revealed the name of the new building: U2 Campus Apartments.

The hall of residence consists of two, three-winged buildings on three floors with courtyards. Each unit is an independent studio apartment with toilet, bath, kitchen, and living room—fully furnished and equipped with curtains and kitchen utensils. In short, ready for occupation. A small number are particularly disabled-friendly.

The apartments are primarily aimed at international students. The first 144 students have already moved in and the last are about to take occupation.

There is still a need for more housing, however, and the International Housing Foundation (Boligfonden) DTU expects to build more of the same kind of accommodation at or close to Lyngby Campus over the coming years.

“We’ve chosen a modular solution from the company Concept Living, which specializes in delivering prefabricated buildings—and we have no regrets. Construction has progressed rapidly and completely according to plan, and we have ended up with some really beautiful, functional, and affordable student housing for young people,” says Director of the International Housing Foundation (Boligfonden) DTU, Mikael Hyttel Thomsen.
