Society needs more engineers and it is gratifying that the Government has set aside money for more student places. However, an increased intake must be fully funded.
Parliament has decided to give higher education programmes an extraordinary special grant to create more student places, as far more young people than normal are expected to seek higher education as a result of the Covid-19 situation.
In particular, the political parties want to see the creation of places in technology and IT and will prioritize study programmes that can support the green transition and contribute to realizing the 70 per cent target. And here, DTU’s study programmes will be highly relevant.
“There is a need to realize digitalization opportunities and to create technology for sustainable change, and it is well documented that in the future there will be a shortage of engineers—especially with IT competences—in Danish companies. DTU is of course ready to fully support the Parliament's wishes,” says Executive Vice President, Provost Rasmus Larsen.
“However, an increased intake at DTU requires that there are qualified applicants, that the increased intake is fully funded, and that we can provide the necessary teaching and room capacity. We look forward to the dialogue with the ministry regarding the terms of the additional appropriation.”
