Slightly fewer have sought admission to DTU this year—in turn, however, the proportion of female applicants has increased.
The total number of applications for DTU has declined by two per cent from 7,837 last year to 7,657 this year. This can be seen from the list of applicants for higher education in Denmark.
“The Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) and Master of Science in Engineering (MSc Eng) programmes are still number four and five on the list of the most popular study programmes, and I can promise those who will be admitted to DTU that they are about to become part of a fantastic programme with great opportunities to influence the world in a positive and sustainable direction,” says Dean of Undergraduate Studies at DTU, Lars D. Christoffersen.
This year’s applications show a small increase in the proportion of female applicants to DTU’s study programmes. Last year, the percentage of female applicants was 31, and this year it increased to 32 per cent.
“Historically, engineering programmes are dominated by male applicants, but we are working hard to change imbalance in gender distribution. Therefore, we are of course pleased to see that we are moving in the right direction,” says Lars D. Christoffersen.
Although the number of applicants to DTU have declined slightly, there are still far more applicants than there are student places. This means that once again, there will be no spare places at DTU and several programmes with high grade point averages will be discontinued.
A total of 88,754 young people have submitted their application for a higher education programme. This corresponds to a decline of just over one per cent from last year’s 89,700 applications.
A total of 2,827 young people have applied for admission to DTU’s BSc and BEng programmes as their first priority compared with 2,966 in 2018. This is a five per cent reduction compared to last year.
BSc Eng programme
The number of first priority applicants for DTU’s BSc Eng programmes has gone from 1,773 in 2018 to 1,690 in 2019—a five per cent reduction.
On the bachelor's programme, particularly Artificial Intelligence and Data and the English-language General Engineering programme have attracted many applicants. The latter is the most popular study programme and had 418 applicants, of which 192 were first priority.
The two BSc Eng programmes Artificial Intelligence and Data and Design of Sustainable Energy Systems, which were established last year, also seem to have a great intake this year.
BEng programme
The BEng programme at DTU had 1,137 first priority applicants this year compared to 1,193 last year, corresponding to a five per cent reduction.
Once again, the most popular BEng programmes are Civil Engineering, Software Technology, and Architectural Engineering.
On 26 July, the applicants will learn whether they have been admitted to their programme.
