DTU appoints new Head of Department for DTU Systems Biology

As of 1 January 2015 Hanne Østergaard Jarmer is new Head of Department at DTU Systems Biology. She comes from a position as Head of Education at the same deparment.

"We are pleased that Hanne Jarmer has accepted the position as Head of Department at DTU Systems Biology. She is a person who sees the big picture and will work zealously to create team cohesion and a collaborative spirit at DTU Systems Biology,” says President Anders Bjarklev.

The President emphasizes Hanne Jarmer’s passion for education, and characterizes her as "a pioneer when it comes to developing new teaching methods."

"We have the best researchers and educators in existence, and our students are in a league of their own. I cannot wait to spearhead the exciting new developments that will take place at DTU Systems Biologi in the near future,” says Hanne Jarmer.

Initiated DTU’s participation in Coursera
During her time as Head of Education, Hanne Jarmer initiated DTU's participation in the online education platform Coursera. In early 2013, DTU held Scandinavia's first online course on Coursera.

Since 2013, Hanne Jarmer has been a member of the Section Coordination Committee at DTU Systems Biologi, and in 2014 she became a member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences. She has a Master's in Biotechnology from DTU and a PhD in Bioinformatics—also from DTU. In 2005, she was even among the final nine candidates for the job as Denmark's first astronaut
