Teaching

Teaching is a core task at DTU, and the development of teaching, new perspectives on learning and the development of learning spaces are constantly in focus.

The teaching seminar for all DTU teachers, where the award is presented, is organised by DTU Learning Lab. This year, the seminar focuses on how physical learning spaces can improve students' teaching and learning experiences. In recent years, DTU has invested in creating new teaching facilities that support student learning, such as in Building 208 on DTU Lyngby Campus.

“We need to constantly balance utilising the possibilities of digitalisation with being a physical university where we facilitate students meeting their teachers and each other,” says Head of DTU Learning Lab and Vice Dean of Education, Jens Duus. “Learning is a social activity and social interaction promotes learning.”

The DTU Teaching Award was established by the DTU Executive Board in 2016. The award recognises systematic and extraordinary efforts to develop learning, teaching and education and is one of the initiatives that help highlight the importance of teaching at DTU.

In addition, Polyteknisk Forening recognises the teachers of the year at DTU's Annual Celebration. DTU Learning Lab is in the process of establishing a research environment for engineering didactics, and the Executive Board is working on a plan for pedagogical merit so DTU can systematize the reward of talented teachers in a way that ensures that the outstanding efforts of the teaching staff are rewarded.
