DTU President: “Young women should be able to see that DTU is for everyone who can and will – regardless of gender”

Evidence suggests that role models can help attract more women to fields where men are the majority. For that reason, DTU President Anders Bjarklev believes it is essential to shine a light on some of the women who make a difference at DTU.

Shine a light on those who make a difference

For Camilla Rygaard-Hjalsted, the dean of sustainability, diversity, inclusion, and talent development at DTU, it is crucial that the university launches concrete initiatives to create equal opportunities for all. And the significance of female role models should not be underestimated, she stresses, because throughout history, many women have been overlooked for their achievements. That is why DTU has started naming roads on campus after women, most recently adding Agnes Nielsens Vej, named after one of Denmark’s first female engineers.

“It is imperative that we shine a light on the many women who make a difference here at DTU. It helps break down stereotypes and increases the likelihood that we can attract – and retain – the most talented people, regardless of gender,” says Camilla Rygaard-Hjalsted.

Facts

In order to attract and retain more female talent, DTU wants to highlight those women who, through their professional achievements, have made a difference – whether they are still students, are well into their research careers or hold management positions.

On LinkedIn, DTU has highlighted a small selection of the many women from DTU who have made a difference through their work – so they can pave the way for the next generation of female talent from DTU.
