Healthcare Operations Management Operations Research Analytics

Jens Brunner has been permanently appointed as Professor of Decision Science in Healthcare at the Department of Technology, Management, and Economics at the Technical University of Denmark. He was appointed as Professor of Health Care Operations/Health Information Management at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Augsburg until March 2023. From 2013 to 2020 he was (co-) director of the University Center for Health Care at Klinikum Augsburg (UNIKA-T). He received a PhD from the TUM School of Management in 2009 and a diploma degree in Business Administration from the University of Mannheim in 2006. Professor Brunner teaches courses in service operations management, modeling and optimization, integer programming, and health care management. His research interests center on design and analysis of service systems using quantitative methods. A special focus is on processes in healthcare. He is Department Editor for Health Care Management Science and Associate Editor for Operations Research for Health Care, OR Spectrum, and IISE Healthcare Systems Engineering. His work has been published in IIE Transaction, Health Care Management Science, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal on Computing etc. In 2015, Professor Brunner and colleagues have been awarded by the Harold W. Kuhn Award for the best published paper in Naval Research Logistics. In 2016, Professor Brunner and colleagues were under the finalists for the EURO Excellence in Practice Award with their research project: Duty and Workstation Rostering Considering Preferences and Fairness: A Case Study at a Department of Anesthesiology. In 2022, Prof. Brunner and his team won the IISE/SSE Outstanding Innovation in Service Systems Engineering Award for their Covid-19 research and they were finalists in the IISE QCRE/ProcessMiner Data Challenge Competition.
