Panagiotis G. Kougias is Associate Professor in the field of anaerobic digestion at the Department of Environmental Engineering, Technical University of Denmark. He has a M.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering (2007) and holds a Ph.D. in Biogas production (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, 2011). His research interests focus on agro-industrial waste treatment, anaerobic reactor configuration, optimization of the anaerobic processes, and development of sustainable solutions for organic waste and wastewater management. His research activities include both practical and technological aspects (e.g. biogas upgrading, foaming in biogas reactors) and methodological issues (e.g. next generation sequencing). Currently, he is involved mainly in projects related to in-situ and ex-situ biogas upgrading, exploitation of grasses and fibers for biofuel production and metagenomic analysis on biogas reactors. The innovative results of his research have been published in several refereed journals and international conference proceedings. Finally, he is involved in the preparation of several projects funded from Danish Research Council, Energinet and EU-Horizon 2020.
