Greta D'Angelo from DTU Mechanical Engineering defends her PhD, "A Platform for Multi Material Additive Manufacturing, Modular Tooling and Process Verification", Wednesday 16th March from 13.00 to 15.00. The defence takes place in auditorium 072, building 421, DTU.

This PhD dissertation "A Platform for Multi Material Additive Manufacturing, Modular Tooling and Process Verification" deals with a series of technologies that creates 3D objects from 3D model data by joining layers of materials, Additive Manufacturing. This fabrication technique, as opposed to subtractive manufacturing, has recently come into the spotlight for several benefits relative to how products are constructed. It allows products to have internal complex features, and to reduce assembly steps by designing parts with integrated functions as well as reducing startup cost and allowing for quicker iterations.

For this reason Additive Manufacturing is undergoing rapid fast development. The aim of this thesis is to extend upon extrusion based process for the production of multi-material parts within the same working  envelope. Principles of modularity are applied and different materials are studied in terms of processing conditions and compatibility. A methodology for the validation of parts and processes based on a calibration artifact is also presented.
