Stig Helveg is Director of the Danish National Research Foundation’s Center for Visualizing Catalytic Processes (VISION) and Professor at the Technical University of Denmark. He received the PhD degree in Physics from the University of Aarhus, Denmark, in 2000. Thereafter he joined Topsoe A/S in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark, as an industrial Postdoc and staff scientist, and advanced to become Fellow. In 2020, he joined the Technical University of Denmark to further advance his research agenda by building up VISION.His research has contributed to development and application of atomic-resolution transmission electron microscopy in catalysis and surface sciences and has pioneered in situ and operando electron microscopy of catalysts under relevant reaction conditions and at the atomic-level.He has worked interdisciplinarily with internationally leading groups on integrating advances from quantitative atomic-resolution electron microscopy, micro-electro-mechanical system technology, chemical engineering, catalysis and surface science. As a result, his research has provided unprecedented new discoveries on dynamic processes and functions in catalysis at the atomic-scale and has been awarded e.g. EliteForsk prize in 2018, Materials Research Society(MRS) Innovation in Materials Characterization Award in 2019 and Microscopy Society of America’s Fellowship in 2021.
