Upconversion imaging and spectroscopy Solid-state lasers Nonlinear frequency conversion Sum- and difference frequency mixing Biomedical optics

The core competence of Peter Tidemand-Lichtenberg's research is in the development of novel light sources and detection systems targeted for specific applications. The light sources and detector systems are based on non-linear frequency mixing using efficient solid-state or semiconductor based laser systems.   Specifically a generic approach is sought for the development of coherent light sources in the UV and visible spectrum. The light sources are designed and tailored for specific applications, e.g. in terms of wavelength, tuneablilty, pulse duration, and pulse energy. Applications are within bio-medicine: e.g. as excitation light source for fluorescence spectroscopy and within dermatology.  The spectral coverage from the visible has recently been extended to cover the mid-IR spectral range, allowing for development of efficient light sources as well as detection systems in the 2 – 12 um range based on frequency mixing. Applications for these systems are gas sensing: e.g. in monitoring combustion systems or environment control. Lately systems for hyper spectral imaging in the mid-IR spectral range have been the main focus.
