Technical University of Denmark (DTU), who operates the national test centres for large wind turbines at Østerild and Høvsøre, have just completed the tender process for the rental of the new test stands, which have been established on the basis of Parliament’s decision for more test facilities in Denmark.

A great interest for large wind turbines in Østerild

The National Test Centre for Large Wind Turbines in Østerild and the Test Centre in Høvsøre are to be expanded. It is expected that the future wind turbines in Østerild will have a tip height of 300 metres, and the industry is very keen on the new test stands.

DTU Wind Energy are favourably disposed towards the energy agreement

Deputy Head of Department of Wind Energy, Peter Hjuler Jensen, notes that the Danish Parliament is reunified at the energy area as all parties have signed the energy agreement. “This is very, very positive and a historic milestone”, he says.

Opening of the new visitor centre in Østerild on September 9th

The new visitor centre situated at the National Test Centre for Large Wind Turbines at Østerild will be officially opened on September 9th 2017. Lars Christian Lilleholt, Minister of Energy, Utilities and Climate, will participate in the opening.

Dispensation for regulations of light at Østerild

After a nearly yearlong wait DTU Wind Energy has gotten a dispensation for turning of the white, flashing lights on the wind turbines at Østerild, National Test Centre for Large Wind Turbines. The dispensation is valid from February 1st 2017 until January 31st 2022.

New concept wind turbine tested at DTU

DTU has entered into cooperation with Vestas on the testing of a completely new type of wind turbine which has four rotors instead of one. Vestas’ new concept turbine challenges the sector’s conventional rules that the bigger the wind turbine, the higher the output.

Final two test stands at Østerild Test Centre leased out

DTU has now leased out the last two vacant test stands at Østerild Test Centre. The vacant test stands were auctioned, and more bids were received than could be satisfied.
