Monica Garcia is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering working on Remote Sensing in Ecohydrology. She works with hyperspectral, thermal and multispectral data from satellite and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to study how terrestrial ecosystems interact with the hydrological cycle, the carbon cycle and the atmosphere at various spatial scales.

She models evapotranspiration, surface energy balance or water use efficiency over natural dryland and temperate vegetation and crops across the world. She is also developing novel indicators of ecosystem status in both freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems in response to disturbances such as droughts, pollution or land degradation. Some of her scientific publications have been featured in Nature Geosciences, the New Scientist, and Reuters among others.
