The “network technology and service platform” research-group is part of the communication technology section at DTU Fotonik. The research group works with both generic network solutions for ultrafast broadband (wired and wireless) and more dedicated solutions for services with special requirements related to security, availability, reliability and latency – typically in an M2M/IoT scenario.

Grant opportunities
We are now seeking PhD students to do research on secure and ultra-reliable communication solutions for demanding applications in transport systems (for example drone or train control) and/or healthcare (body-sensors for patient monitoring or pre-hospital ICT solutions).

The PhD students will to a large extent be doing experimental research and contribute to larger experiments together with other industrial and university partners - but some theoretical work is also expected.

The PhD research will covers areas such as 5G/6G networks, IoT solutions, LP-WAN technologies, SDN and NFV, AI/ML, Time Sensitive Networking, Mission critical application etc. The prospective candidate should have an interest in communication network architecture and protocols, hardware-software interplay and reliable and secure end-to-end communicaton.

All our research is to some extent related to national or international research programs and the PhD study will usually be related and integrated into one or more of these activities.

You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) in engineering, specializing in telecommunication or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree. Good communication skills in English are required. 

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see the DTU PhD Guide

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
