Two postdocs fellowships positions are available in the Department of Energy Conversion and Storage (DTU Energy), Technical University of Denmark (DTU), in the area of synthesis and characterization of thin films materials.

Research project

Postdoctoral position I:
Epitaxial oxide heterostructures: New design of Energy-Efficient Devices

This postdoctoral fellowship position is dealing with two but related topics within thin films oxide for energy application. The group develops thin film solid state electrolyte materials with high ionic conductivity for energy storage and conversion. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in materials science and preferably also in solid state ionics. Another part of this project aims to unveil, explore and understand the interaction between magnetic and ferroelectric phases. Specifically, the postdoctoral fellowship will focus on tuning the exotic states of ferroelectric and ferromagnetic materials by heterostructure engineering using an external magnetic or/and electric field.

Postdoctoral position II:Epitaxial oxide heterostructures: New design of Energy-Efficient Devices

In the group we are working with powering IoT nodes from ubiquitous heat sources by using nano-enabled micro-energy systems with a small footprint. Using concepts from the emerging Nanoionics and Iontronics disciplines, enhanced harvesting and storage devices will give rise to a radically new family of all-solid-state micro-energy sources able to eventually harvest and store energy at the same time. This project aims to develop new flexoelectric oxide materials for piezoelectric harvesting using thin films technologies.


Candidates should have a PhD degree in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or similar field with strong hands-on experience in thin films and solid state ionics. In-depth experience in thin film deposition of oxide materials is advantageous. The work requires high level of experimental skills to operate sophisticated machines, analytical mindset for interpreting measured data and perform designer’s experiments for innovation. You are a team player and your strengths include taking personal responsibility, high motivation for innovation, excellence and flexibility to work and deliver results. In addition, the following qualifications are requested:

  • Experience with oxide materials
  • Experience with thin films oxide technology
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Being able to work independently and in a team

Candidates with the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience with functional metal oxides and their chemistry
  • Experience in metal oxides thin films deposition
  • Knowledge in solid state-physics, chemistry and flexoelectricity.
  • Experience in fine structure characterization methods
  • Proved writing and communication skills.

Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.


The period of employment for Postdoctoral position I is 3 years while for Postdoctoral position II is 2 years.
