The Section for Manufacturing Engineering at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, performs research based on a multi-disciplinary use of process technology, materials science, solid and fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics in the analysis, modelling and development of manufacturing processes. The research objective of the Section is to promote ‘Precision Manufacturing’ to meet the performance, durability, reliability, size, and cost requirements of modern products.

The Section for Manufacturing Engineering at DTU, Department of 
Mechanical Engineering has a vacant position as Postdoc in the field of Micro and Nano Metrology for Replication Processes. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.

Responsibilities and tasks
The position focuses on research in the area of precision and micro and nano manufacturing engineering, with focus on replication processes, their enabling process chains, and the metrology associated to them.

Particular importance will be given to the development and establishment of a substantial research activity based on external funding from national and international funding bodies. High quality scientific publications will be of utmost importance to position the activity internationally. The position will hold elements of project management and coordination of funded projects. Teaching will be focused primarily on supervision of projects.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent and have: 

  • Experience on product and process metrology methods and technologies, particularly for high precision applications and at the micro to nanometre scales.
  • Experience on replication processes with particular focus to high precision and high accuracy manufacturing.
  • Experience on precision moulding technologies and their application at the sub-mm to sub-μm dimensional scales.
  • Knowledge of and possibly experience on process chains for precision/micro/nano manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of and possibly experience on statistical process control, process monitoring methods, design of engineering experiments applied to instruments calibration, manufacturing processes optimization and quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of metrological and statistical methods and software packages.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain academic and industrial collaborations.
  • Experience in project management of research projects.
  • A multi-disciplinary background in relevant fields of engineering (mechanical, electric, electronic and similar) and the ability work across those fields is preferred.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 1 year and 10 months.
