The Water Technology Section focuses on processes and technology for treating a range of water types by biological, chemical, physical and electrochemical approaches. The scales range from molecular, over laboratory and pilot scale to full-scale technical systems and include experimentation, monitoring and modelling.

The purpose of the position is to assist with projects on the application of chemical, physical and biological processes for the remediation of various types of water. The position includes water analysis and method development for such methods. The research assistant will participate in several projects, where they will be working with the experimental plan and execution, as well as the analysis of samples and the interpretation of the results.

Responsibilities and tasks
Are you interested in boosting your experience and adding your input in water treatment methods? Then, perhaps you are our new research assistant. You will be responsible for the experimental research on water remediation, which includes the set-up and conduction of the experiments, but also data interpretation and presentation of the results to supervisors and partners.

Specifically we expect you to:

  • Perform experiments and the relevant documentation within the research field of water treatment. Examples of the methods you may use are the treatment of water by ozonation, chlorination, coagulation, flotation and granular activated carbon
  • Apply analytical chemistry and operate complex analytical instruments for the chromatographic and spectroscopic identification of organic compounds in wastewaters
  • Coordinate within different laboratories and technicians
  • Instruct and guide new bachelor and master thesis students into the laboratory

Candidates should have a master’s degree in environmental engineering or equivalent.

  • Prior laboratory research experience and solid experiment skills
  • Experience and academic knowledge on physical-chemical water treatment processes
  • Experience with ozonation and ozonation characterization in relation to micropollutant treatment
  • Experience with several chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques.
  • Working experience with HPLC-UV, purge and trap GC/MS, fluorescence spectroscopy is an advantage
