Open science

Open Science is an approach to the scientific process based on cooperation, openness, and unrestricted access to research data, publications, and tools

Open Science is based on the desire for free access to scientific research and is now also an expectation embedded in public research grants.

Now, access to research is supported by new digital technologies, tools, and infrastructures for research collaboration. DTU Library has developed a coherent infrastructure to support researchers in their Open Science practices: access to all necessary scientific literature through DTU Findit, archiving and publication of research data in DTU Data and archiving of publications and associated Open Access versions in DTU Orbit. Both DTU Orbit and DTU Data are globally accessible and systems that contribute to the open dissemination and sharing of scientific results.

Through Open Science, DTU aims to create even more transparency about own research. Based on the digital infrastructure, DTU therefore has a unique opportunity to fulfill ambitions for more openness in research, including open access to articles and data.

With the basic infrastructure established, a cultural change must also occur through researchers thinking reusability of data into their daily routines. This change must take place for examples through working with the FAIR principles and is supported by dialogue, competence development and support. The mandate for changing DTU's research culture rests with the DTU Research Data Forum.
