DTU team wins category in VentureCup 2015

A technology protecting marine environment
The winning EDS (Ecological Disposal Systems) team has developed a solution which can solve the pollution problems faced by the dredging industry when surplus material is discarded into the sea. In connection with offshore structures, you often have large amounts of, e.g., excess seabed material which needs to be removed—such as mud, sand, etc.—which traditionally has been dumped elsewhere in the sea. The solution EDS has come up with will ensure that the material is not spread in the marine environment, but instead can be reused for, e.g., foundations.

"We have worked hard to adapt the technology to the market," says Ana from the EDS team. "We now await the approval of the method by the environmental authorities, so we can proceed in our collaboration with the companies who have already shown an interest in our solution". It can take from six months up to a year to get final approval, but already in the autumn the team will participate in the University Startup World Cup.

Clear DTU fingerprint on competition
A total of six teams of students from DTU entered the final of the VentureCups StartUp Competition. The Startup Competition is held every year by VentureCup, and it is a nationwide competition for teams of university students who are in the process of starting their own business.

This year, 18 teams participated, of which six are from DTU. Every year, the different teams compete in six different categories:

• Cleantech & Environment
• Life Science & MedTech
• Mobile & Web
• Services
• Product & Technology
• Social Entrepreneurship.

The winner in each category will receive DKK 25,000, and the team with the most promising project in the entire competition receives DKK 225,000 in start-up help. This year, the overall winner was YoooWe from Copenhagen Business School.
