Østerild test stand

Two new test stands are ready for wind turbines in Østerild

The expansion of Test Centre Østerild has now reached the point when it is possible for the manufacturers to start casting the foundations on the two new test stands.

Last year, the Danish Government decided to expand the Test Centre in Østerild with an additional two test stands. It was later on decided, that Siemens Wind Power and Envision should be the two new test stand renters.

Since then, the expansion has been well on it's way.The two test stands are cleared up and the necessary high voltage and fiber cables for the wind turbines have been established, tells Poul Falk Nielsen who is Site manager for DTU Wind Energy in Østerild:

“The next step is installing the light masts and the masts for the measurements in front of the wind turbines. Additionally we only have to clear up the area,” he says.

Masts are moved and new are going to be put up

Besides the foundations for the wind turbines, other mast foundations have been at the drawing board. DTU wishes to install two new measuring masts, a new light mast and to move a light mast. The reason for installing new masts is the distance between the northern and the southern part of the test centre which is long: 4,7 km – and that is why the two light masts are to be supplemented with an extra light mast in the middle. Each of the three masts are going to be 250 meters high.

The work of the contractor for the masts has been done already and the foundations are cast.

The Danish Nature Agency is satisfied

Poul Falk Nielsen has recently been around the Test Centre Østerild in the company of The Danish Nature Agency. The Danish Nature Agency is satisfied with the look of the construction work and the nature in the area. So here, too, things have fallen into place.

Poul Falk Nielsen expects the wind turbine companies to start their work by the end of the summer.
