Visitor at Open House on Risø Campus: “It’s my dream study programme”

This year, DTU is admitting its first students to the Industrial Engineering study programme, designed to train the energy engineers of the future. Curious visitors have attended an Open House on Risø Campus to learn more about the study programme.

Being part of shaping a new study programme is a privilege granted to few. Yet this is precisely the case for the students starting the Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) programme in Industrial Engineering in September 2026.

It is based at DTU’s campus at Risø, a few kilometres from Roskilde and right next to Roskilde Fjord. Risø Campus is renowned for its research in energy technology and houses world-class research facilities.

It will soon also be known as a study campus where students receive tuition and are trained to become the energy engineers of the future – because there is a need for them. But first, word of the programme needs to spread, which is why DTU held an Open House at Risø Campus on 28 May.

“We have created a study programme with a broad academic scope specifically to train the engineers who will design and operate the sustainable solutions of the future, for example within new forms of energy and energy systems. And that is why there was no doubt that the programme should be based at Risø Campus, close to the latest energy research and industry partnerships,” explains Lars D. Christoffersen, Dean of Studies and Student Affairs at DTU, who attended the event himself.

Another person who attended the Open House was Nicolas Viggo Larsen, who was born and raised near Risø.

“I’ve been looking for a long time for a study programme that covered all my interests, ranging from sustainable energy to robotics, and suddenly it turned up, and right near my hometown too,” he explains, continuing:

“I’d like to end up in a job that gives me a clear conscience and feels meaningful, and I’m sure this programme can give me that. Yes, in fact, everything points to this being my dream study programme.”

The event combined presentations with a tour, and there were plenty of opportunities to ask questions along the way, which guest Nikolai Gersager, among others, took full advantage of. He attended the Open House because he is still in the process of deciding which of DTU’s study programmes to choose.

“I’ve already had many of my questions about the programme answered, so it was absolutely the right choice to come along today,” he says.

Visitors could get up close to a wind turbine and learn more about how solar cells are manufactured. The event concluded with sandwiches and soft drinks, as well as a barbecue, where visitors could meet Risø’s researchers and staff.
