Rico Krueger is an Associate Professor in the Intelligent Transportation Systems Section of the Division for Transportation Science at the Department of Technology, Management and Economics at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His research lies at the intersection of behavioural modelling, simulation and machine learning with a focus on the design, management and enhancement of intelligent, human-centric and sustainable mobility systems. A central aspect of his research is the integration of advanced mathematical models, algorithms and data collection methods-such as immersive virtual reality-to better understand and predict human behaviour and decision-making in the context of transport and mobility. The practical applications of his work include emerging transportation technologies, travel demand forecasting, multimodal systems, mobility-on-demand and the interplay between mobility, sustainability, health and wellbeing. Rico received a European Research Council Starting Grant for his project IMMERSION: Explaining human decision-making by combining choice and process data (2024–2029). Before joining DTU, Rico was a postdoctoral researcher at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. He holds a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UNSW Sydney, Australia.
