Structures
Specialization (7): Structures
Structural engineering constitutes the art of designing safe and durable structures, balancing resources, and the demand for robustness. The focus lies on understanding, modelling, and controlling the mechanical behaviour of the load-carrying system of a structure and the loads it must withstand.
The programme-specific courses for this specialization are:
41237 | Dynamics of structures: theory and analysis | 5 | point | Spring F3A (Tues 8-12) |
41963 | Advanced Concrete Structures | 5 | point | Autumn E4B (Fri 8-12) |
41968 | Bridge Structures | 5 | point | Autumn E2A (Mon 13-17) |
41972 | Plated Steel Structures | 5 | point | Spring F1A (Mon 8-12) |
Other relevant courses, though not needed for receiving the specialization, include: Experimental Solid Mechanics; Experimental Structural Mechanics; Structure-borne Sound; Finite Element Methods; Structural Fire Safety Design; Structural Design of Precast Concrete Buildings; Computational Structural Modelling 2 – Non-linear Finite Element Method; Advanced Timber Structures; Seismic and Wind Engineering.
Specializations are merely recommended ways of choosing the courses in the curriculum. Applicants are not admitted to a specialization but to the programme and it is possible to choose among all the courses in the curriculum following the directions given. However, if a specialization has been fulfilled the title of the specialization may be added to the diploma.
