Professortiltrædelsesforelæsning

Thomas Ostenfeld Larsen has recently been appointed Professor at DTU Bioengineering and is now giving his inaugural lecture titled Discovery and Bioengineering of Natural Products.

Abstract
Microorganisms such as bacteria, filamentous fungi and algae can produce a vast amount of bioactive natural products, many of which have a huge impact on our society. This lecture will illustrate how the use of bioassays, advanced spectroscopy and genomic driven approaches are used for discovery of biotoxins, drug candidates and pigments. Furthermore, the lecture will illustrate how microorganisms are using smaller building blocks for biosynthesis of different types of often very complex organic molecules and how it is possible to characterize and engineer such biosynthetic pathways towards synthetic natural products.

The lecture is followed by a reception.
