Adam C. Martiny is Professor at DTU Aqua working on marine microbiology, ocean biogeochemistry, and ecosystem responses to climate change. His research integrates ocean observations, genomics, satellite remote sensing, and ecosystem modeling to understand how marine biodiversity regulates biogeochemical cycling and ecosystem functioning across the global ocean. He is Founder and International Coordinator of Bio-GO-SHIP and Principal Investigator within GO-SHIP, leading international efforts integrating biological, chemical, and physical observations across global repeat hydrographic surveys. His research focuses on phytoplankton physiology, ecological stoichiometry, nutrient stress, microbial biodiversity, and the coupling between ocean ecosystems and climate. Current activities include integrating genomics, satellite remote sensing, autonomous observations, and Earth system modeling to quantify ecosystem stress, understand climate-driven ecosystem change, and evaluate the efficiency and ecological trade-offs of ocean-based climate mitigation strategies. Martiny has served in multiple leadership roles within Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography, including the Publications Committee, Meetings Committee, and leadership of the Ocean Sciences Meetings. A substantial part of his publication record originates from previous appointments outside DTU and may therefore not yet be fully represented in DTU Orbit.
