The Day the University Shut Down

What happens when a cyber attack hits a university and suddenly affects students, staff, education and research?

As the kickoff to Cyber Security Month, DTU invites you to an event featuring Joost de Jong, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Joost de Jong will share insights from the cyber attack that struck the university in January 2025, including how it was detected, the critical first hours, and the decisions the university had to make under pressure.

TU/e is DTU’s partner university in the EuroTech Universities Alliance. The event is therefore also an opportunity to learn from a university with which DTU collaborates closely on education, research and innovation, and to bring their experiences with cyber attacks and cyber security into DTU’s own work.

Mads Henrik Bang, IT Director at DTU, will open the event with a perspective on the importance of cyber resilience for research and educational institutions. Following the presentation, Joost de Jong and Anders Fosgerau, DTU’s CISO, will participate in a fireside chat on leadership during a cyber crisis and how to prepare for when, not if, an attack occurs.
