Facts

The UN Climate Panel, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is a UN body established in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). The IPCC's task is to provide policymakers with regular scientific assessments on climate change, its implications and potential future risks, as well as to put forward adaptation and mitigation options. IPCC reports are neutral, policy-relevant but not policy-prescriptive.

The IPCC's work must be approved by 195 governments to ensure broad legitimacy.
