DropBucket—the sustainable single-use waste bin developed by students at DTU—wins the coveted Red Dot Design Award.
The innovative and sustainable cardboard waste bin DropBucket has impressed international design judges who want to honour the team behind the invention with the prestigious Red Dot Award in the Product Design category.
DropBucket was created at DTU in 2012 by the two then undergraduate students Heiða Gunnarsdóttir Nolsøe and Marie S. Berggreen. The two have since continued the development and dissemination of the product through their start-up company named after the waste bin.
The Red Dot Award jury has selected DropBucket among 4,928 products from 56 countries, and the award will place DropBucket in the company of such prominent former award winners as Adidas, Apple, and Audi.
The eco-friendly waste bin has already proved its usability at several festivals, among others Roskilde Festival, Distortion and Aarhus Festival, and the team behind DropBucket has received several awards, among others the Female Entrepreneur(s) of the Year 2014 and the Scanstar 2014 award for best packaging in the Nordic countries. With the Red Dot award, Heiða Gunnarsdóttir Nolsøe and Marie S. Berggreen hope to attract international customers with Germany being the first market they plan to enter.
DropBucket will receive its Red Dot Award on 29 June 2015 in Essen, Germany.
