Four researchers, Luca Laraia, Katrine Qvortrup, Wei Yan, and Susanne Mossin, have recently been appointed as professors in recognition of their scientific achievements and continued contributions to their respective fields.
The Laraia lab is developing chemical tools to study lipid transport in humans and pathogenic fungi, with applications as anti-cancer and anti-infective agents. This includes the design of sterol-inspired compounds, biochemical and biophysical screening panels, chemical proteomic methods and high-content, image-based phenotypic profiling.
Katrine Qvortrup's research explores the interplay between chemistry and biology to develop technologies with societal value. This includes developing diagnostic probes that can provide insight into diseases. In addition, she works on developing targeted treatments that increase therapeutic efficacy and limit off-target toxicity.
Wei Yan applies thermodynamics to a wide range of industrial processes, with a current focus on CCS and hydrogen storage. His work integrates high-pressure phase behaviour experiments, advanced thermodynamic modelling, and efficient equilibrium computation algorithms to advance understanding in these fields.
Susanne Mossin focuses on transition metals and in-situ and operando electron paramagnetic resonance. Her group combines spectroscopic and characterisation methods for the elucidation of reaction mechanisms, deactivation pathways, and electronic structures of functional materials for environmental catalysis and sustainable chemistry.
Inaugural lectures will be held to mark these appointments. The recognition reflects the researchers’ continued commitment to advancing knowledge and addressing complex scientific challenges.
