Curriculum Vitae for Peter Bøggild (12.10.2026) I am head of the 2DPHYS section, a terrific group of independent researchers crossing from experiment to theory, from nanophotonics, quantum electronics, materials engineering, ionic transport, and much more. Here, I lead the 2D Electronic Materials group, which focuses on the fundamental properties of low-dimensional materials and how they can be engineered into novel devices, primarily for electronic and optoelectronic applications. We study phase transitions in 2D materials driven by electric fields, strain and synthesis, including metal–semiconductor switching in transition metal dichalcogenides for next-generation memristors. Currently (2026), we are investigating engineered band structures and quantum phases, such as exciton condensates and correlated states enabled by moiré potentials in van der Waals heterostructures. Alongside this, we work on magnetic sensing for brain-current detection, DNA origami-based nanofabrication, and light-wave physics that uses ultrashort THz pulses to probe electron dynamics at ultrahigh frequencies. I am co-PI and coordinator of the ERC Synergy project METRIQS. It explores hybrid heterostructures, in which 2D materials are combined with freestanding oxide membranes, for new high-temperature quantum phases and other ways to engineer material properties.
