Guangya Yang is an Associate Professor at DTU Wind and Energy Systems, Technical University of Denmark. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from The University of Queensland, Australia, in 2008, and subsequently joined DTU. In 2020, he undertook a full-time industry sabbatical at Ørsted as a Senior Power System Engineer, where he focused on the security and reliability of the electrical design of offshore wind power plants. His research focuses on the stability, control, and protection of converter-dominated power systems, with particular emphasis on wind power plants, electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation, and hardware- and software-in-the-loop (HiL/SiL) testing. Within this domain, Dr. Yang has made significant contributions to the testing and validation of wind turbines, wind power plants, and synchronous condensers for grid code compliance and operational assessment. His work has advanced the application of real-time simulation to develop and evaluate control and protection performance and system stability under realistic operating conditions. Bridging research and social impact, Dr. Yang has played a leading role in both standardization and research infrastructure development. He is the proposer and Convener of IEC 61400-21-5, leading the development of international technical specifications for HiL testing of wind power plants. He is also the main proposer and Scientific Coordinator of the Real-Time Computing Center for Secure and Rapid Energy System Transformation (RT Center), a €22.1 million research infrastructure project included in the Danish National Research Infrastructure Roadmap 2025–2029. He has established his international research profile through leadership of various national and European research projects, with a combined project portfolio exceeding €12 million. He served as Coordinator of the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network InnoCyPES (Grant No. 956433), which trained 15 PhD researchers in cyber-physical energy systems. He has been listed among Stanford University’s Top 2% Scientists and ranked among leading scientists in Denmark by Research.com. Dr. Yang is deeply engaged in scientific publishing and professional service. He is the Founding Editor of the IEEE Power & Energy Society Topical Section in IEEE Access and serves as an Editor of the Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy. He has previously served as Editor for IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, and IEEE Power Engineering Letters, and also serves as a reviewer for Nature Energy. As an educator and mentor, Dr. Yang has developed two regular DTU courses (31742 and 46775) and has supervised 18 PhD students and more than 100 MSc projects. One of his former PhD students received the DTU Best Young Researcher Award in 2025.
