Dr. Deren Y. Barsakcioglu is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Engineering Technology, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His research lies at the intersection of neural engineering and human–machine interfacing, combining biomedical signal processing, sensing hardware design, and translational approaches to develop neural interface technologies for healthcare and consumer applications. Dr. Barsakcioglu’s work focuses on wearable non-invasive neural interfaces based on high-density surface electromyography (HDsEMG), with particular emphasis on extracting neural information related to spinal motor neuron activity. His research integrates advanced source separation methods, low-noise sensing electronics, embedded systems, and wearable platforms to obtain reliable and interpretable neural signals outside controlled laboratory environments. His work has applications in neurorehabilitation, assistive technologies, prosthetics, movement disorders, and human–machine interaction. More broadly, his research aims to bridge methodological advances in biomedical signal processing and electronics with practical neural interface systems that can support functional restoration, continuous monitoring, and intuitive interaction with technology.
