Jane Hvolbæk Nielsen (JHN) is Head of Department at DTU Physics and works to promote basic research and applications of new knowledge to the benefit of society. JHN has researched the relationship between the properties of materials and their structure on a nanometer scale within the Danish National Research Foundations's Center for Individual Nanoparticle Functionality (DG-CINF). JHN is also member of the Executive Committee for the VILLUM Center for the Science of Sustainable Fuels and Chemicals (V- SUSTAIN). JHN is involved in education at the bachelor, graduate and PhD levels in material physics - especially in the Physics and Nanotechnology programs at DTU, and is focused on giving young people an interest in technical science and science e.g. through hands-on activities in the student lab, Nanoteket DTU. JHN was a member of the board of the Independent Research Fund Denmark from 2013-2018 and is now appointed scientific national delegate to the ESS Council (2019-).
