DTU celebrates 40 talented researchers

Over the past year, DTU researchers have raised DKK 650 million in excellence grants. 9 March, they were celebrated for their world-class research.

On 9 March 40 DTU top researchers were honoured for receiving individual excellence grants in the past year. They have received just over DKK 650 million combined, which is more than last year, where 24 DTU researchers received DKK 245 million.

The grants come from Villum Young Investigator, ERC Starting Grant, and the Novo Nordisk Foundation—among others—and enable the DTU researchers to contribute to solving some of the major challenges faced by our society in a number of fields, including biotechnology, energy, and climate.

The joint celebration took place in the Glass Hall at DTU with around 95 guests attending. Rasmus Larsen—DTU Executive Vice President and Provost—hosted the event:

“I would like to begin by congratulating all the grant recipients. The competition for excellence grants is fierce, and that alone is reason enough to celebrate our success. But the most important thing is that the grants enable our researchers to explore completely new ideas and push the boundaries of science beyond what’s possible. And that’s crucial to creating value in our society. The excellence grants also have a positive impact on the University’s ability to attract prospective job candidates and international partners.”

Speeches and socializing

The celebration also involved a speech by postdoc Bitten Gullberg from DTU Space, who received DKK 5.5 million from the Villum Young Investigator programme for conducting research on galaxies with the highest rates of star formation.

Assistant Professor Christian Majenz from DTU Compute also gave a speech. He received a Sapere Aude grant from Independent Research Fund Denmark for conducting research on cryptographic algorithms and establishing a deeper collaboration between humans and machines for computervision together with a colleague.

The afternoon was wrapped up with a pleasant get-together where the grant recipients had the opportunity to socialize with grant recipients from other departments and academic fields.
